“The key to crossword puzzles was learning to challenge my thought process. At first glance, they are linear, simple, and the answers are already in front of me, but solving the puzzle calls for flexible, indirect thinking. From puns and clues to straightforward facts, crosswords drive me to stretch my mind beyond the most obvious answer. There is no correct way to solve the crossword; it varies as much as the people who complete them. And when they’re finished, it’s satisfying to know that I produced clarity from chaos. That’s why I love architecture — I solve a new puzzle every day.”
