Ochsner Health

Debra H. and Robert J. Patrick Neuroscience Center

New Orleans, La.

The new freestanding neuroscience center will combine more than 20 existing neurological and psychological centers to provide a new home for early-onset dementia, rehabilitation, and integrative services programs. One of the goals of the new center is to diagnose diseases like dementia earlier in the patient’s life, so that treatments result in better quality of life outcomes and caregivers also feel supported.

With a curvilinear layout inspired both by traditional New Orleans architecture and the design and functionality of brain synapses, the space will utilize sun screens both to mitigate solar heat gain and to help patients with visibility and processing issues safely and comfortably navigate the interior. The final design will also include a healing/sculpture garden and music therapy room.

Size: 132,000 sq. ft.

Components: Freestanding neuroscience center that brings more than 20 different centers under one roof; Innovation Center; integrative and aquatic therapies; rehabilitation therapies; healing garden
