Park Nicollet

Clinic and Specialty Center – Burnsville

Burnsville, Minn.

To accommodate the health needs of a growing population in the Twin Cities south metro, Park Nicollet worked with BWBR to create a master plan that redefines patient care for the Burnsville outpatient campus. The implemented first phase was completed in 2020, with subsequent phases to follow. The new Burnsville Clinic creates brand recognition in the community, and the exterior materials palette is purposefully the opposite of the existing facility, creating a “yin–yang” effect to improve campus wayfinding.

The design of the new center supports Park Nicollet’s goal to transition to team-based care, which was employed with the building’s opening. This care model encourages better communication/collaboration among the care team, as well as provides enhanced visibility to the exam rooms, convenient access to shared equipment, and shorter staff travel distances to improve response times.

Phase 1 created a new three-story specialty center and a parking ramp with access to specialty care clinics, a 20,000-square-foot ambulatory surgery center, urgent care, an orthopedic and acute injury clinic, imaging, lab, and support spaces. Phase 2 will reorganize service lines in the existing clinic to better meet patient needs. Future phases also include rehab relocation and increasing the size of imaging, lab, clinics, and the ambulatory surgery center.
