Doug and Nancy Hastad Hall

Waukesha, Wis.

LEED Silver

With one of the top-ranking nursing programs in the state of Wisconsin and nearly two-thirds of the student population dedicated to the sciences, Carroll University pioneers the latest teaching and learning programs. Yet, Carroll’s aging science facilities were no longer equipped to handle the institution’s vision. To correct the course, the Doug and Nancy Hastad Hall addition completes the second phase of a campus renovation plan, updating the science facilities to fulfill today’s academic needs while blazing a trail for tomorrow’s programs.

The Hastad Hall addition to Jaharis Science Laboratories replaces the former Lowry Hall. Hastad Hall’s design uses local limestone, terra-cotta panels, and similar design details to seamlessly integrate with the Jarharis Science facility. The addition establishes a new face for the western edge of the Carroll University Quad while respecting the campus’s historical fabric.

The addition introduces new, highly flexible lab spaces for the physics/engineering, exercise science, and nursing programs, along with multi-use classrooms and modular study spaces furnished to inspire collaboration. A technology-rich nursing simulation lab immerses students directly into a modern-day hospital environment and is fully equipped with state-of-the-art medical manikins, a birthing suite, and adjoining control/observation rooms. The first green roof in Waukesha rounds out the science experience for today’s student pioneers. The project is certified LEED Silver.
