Beverly & John Lord Knight Performance Hall Renovation

When the University of Northwestern wanted to enhance the way students and patrons experienced events held inside the Totino Fine Arts Center, the university partnered with BWBR to transform the former space into the newly renovated Beverly & John Lord Knight Performance Hall. By expanding the front lobby, renovating the performance hall, and updating the facility’s accents, the design of Knight Hall effectively creates a modern concert hall able to complement the performances it hosts.

Building upon the architectural character surrounding UNW’s Campus Green, Knight Hall capitalizes on its incredible greenspace views through large operable doors that draw in both daylight and students. Bright finishes and an open design plan modernize the facility and provide clean, comfortable space for gathering and collaboration. Technologically advanced features, such as LED-accented lighting, reduce waste throughout the facility.

Within the performance hall, a state-of-the-art orchestra pit allows for flexibility in added seating and stage space, unlimited height settings, and quick setup and tear down time. Additionally, acoustical wood paneling in the hall absorbs and reflects sound back to the audience so that even audiences in the back can hear the noteworthy performances.
