Student Support, Nursing, and Dental Expansions
Madison College
Serving a need for skilled healthcare technicians in the Dane County area, Madison College’s dental and nursing programs provide comprehensive training for students pursuing careers in health fields. The expanded dental clinic is a fully functional operatory suite that supports both Dental Assistant and Expanded Function Dental Auxiliary (EFDA) training, equipped with computer-integrated dental chairs, advanced learning technology, a full sterilization center, and dedicated technical work areas. Serving as both a teaching lab and a public clinic offering care to the community, the space allows students to apply advanced clinical skills while addressing regional oral healthcare workforce needs. The project also expands the college’s nursing lab to include a long-term care simulation area with medical-surgical bays, enhancing experiential learning opportunities for emerging healthcare professionals.
With the expansion of nursing lab spaces, Madison College’s food pantry was displaced, creating an opportunity to reimagine the critical program that provides much-needed assistance to students experiencing food scarcity. Formerly located in a back storage closet, the pantry was moved to a prominent location at the front of the building, evolving into a resource hub for wellness, education, and food assistance while nearly tripling food storage capacity. The experience for students seeking nutrition assistance is equitable and dignified, with options to access food packages in the education zone or pass-through lockers located in the corridor. By expanding both healthcare training and wellness services, this project positively impacts students and the broader Dane County community.
