Medical Device Company
Research & Development and Manufacturing Facility Expansion
Upper Midwest, Minn.
A leader of the medical device industry with a need for spatial expansion, the company sought to consolidate people and functions in a central location, optimize efficiency and encourage cooperation between departments. With this project, officials planned for the long-term potential of the organization, site and its functions. The goal was to create a welcoming, open office environment that would aid in recruiting and retaining highly talented individuals and enhance the existing aesthetics through a seamless expansion of an existing facility.
BWBR balanced the needs of the expansion with the existing building and company’s identity, using brand design elements found in both the existing building and in the organization’s global facilities. BWBR incorporated custom wall graphics throughout the building and its tour routes, natural light in most spaces including production areas, warehouses and labs, and an exterior design that emphasizes a high-tech identity to the community. Further, they created a seamless transition between the existing building and expansion with aligned floors between the two areas, avoiding stairs or ramps. Functions of the expansion are aligned vertically, creating a direct link with needed mechanical systems and accessible connections between clean rooms and equipment.
