League of Minnesota Cities

Workplace Remodel

Saint Paul, Minn.

After successfully occupying the same space for 30 years, the League of Minnesota Cities recognized an evolution in staff workstyles and the ways in which the organization supports its members. The League partnered with BWBR to create a transformational remodeling project that responds to modern staffing needs, including more equitable and accessible workspaces, less emphasis on private offices and enclosed spaces, and more purposeful, enriching amenities for all.

After BWBR conducted a workplace study of existing spaces and workstyles, the team developed and implemented a master plan that reconfigures the entire office to be more flexible and collaborative. In addition to an array of work options, a strategic balance of workstations, conference and training rooms, and private enclaves are placed throughout the space. The design preserved legacy materials – like the intricate terrazzo flooring – while seamlessly enhancing integrated safety features with minimal visual impact. The new space serves as a case study that the League can reference when updating any of its other outstate work environments.
