Siebens Forum Student Center and Library Renovations

Storm Lake, Iowa

The phased renovation of Siebens Forum, located below the campus mall and partially underground, transformed the dated and dark spaces of the student center and library into a dynamic, inviting, and interactive campus hub. The completed project helps Buena Vista University students drive their own educational and extracurricular activities within a flexible facility of the future.

Phase 1 renovated the student center. Refreshed amenities such as accessible lounges and study areas, game room, campus bookstore, Business School, and classrooms pair contemporary design with technology to empower students to shape their own learning experience. The improvements also include an enhanced dining experience, focused on student wellness, and a brighter appearance with vibrant colors, updated lighting, and framed views of campus and Storm Lake.

Phase 2 reimagined the library’s role on campus, breaking away from traditional, quiet, individual study. The transformed study resources foster discussion and discovery, combined with newly co-located programs for student IT assistance and the Center for Academic Excellence. This program fusion activates the library’s modern purpose in education and welcomes all students to access knowledge sharing in an illuminating, stimulating atmosphere. By offering access to some of the campus’ most popular day-to-day services, the design creates a central hub for students to access academic and cultural enrichment, whether that be with tutoring, research, technology, or connections with fellow students.
