Rick Dahl

Rick started his three-decades-long career in BWBR’s health care design segment, but it was his work on the Avera Behavioral Health Center that helped him clearly see the human element that affects architecture and lasts far beyond the stroke of the architect’s pen. Inspired, he became a thought leader on the topic of mental and behavioral health care design, advocating for designers and providers to see the safety and care through a different lens, where design elements like light and personal control can enhance the patient experience and healing process. Rick was also instrumental in trademarking the firm’s Human-Centered Safety® design philosophy. He was named principal in 2005 and director in 2014.
