  Rutherford Elementary: Coming Together

Environments that foster the joy of learning build the ultimate lifelong skill. These spaces promote the ideal that learning is fun, teaching is fun

Stimulating places for children to gather and discover the joy of learning abound in this school.

When kids head for Rutherford’s circular lunchroom, they hang their coats on nearby hooks, permitting a quick exit outdoors for recess. The round gathering space is host to many activities, including the latchkey Adventure Club and community meetings.

The spacious gym features moving wall panels, so it can be split into three sections for school and community use. Behind the gym stage, there’s a music room with a movable acoustical wall and locked instrument storage. Small square windows are whimsically arranged to suggest musical notes.

Near the media center, specialty art and science rooms sit side by side, sharing plumbing systems and light streaming in from southern windows. Both rooms have ample cubbies, storage closets, and large display areas.
