In the Rice Park neighborhood, individual buildings are woven together
by a series of alleyways. Lawson Commons itself was designed to
represent a series of buildings, with glass metaphorically acting
as alleyways, connecting elements of the building together. In this
and other ways, Lawson Commons preserves the spirit of the neighborhood,
weaving together the past and the present, brick with glass and
metal, and high-tech with a "high-touch" nod to the areas
history.
A logo expressing the theme of weaving a community tapestry was
developed to provide a "project identity" for the entire
team. It became such an integral element of the buildings
identity that it was incorporated into the finished building
where it is echoed in the custom light fixtures, marks both exterior
and interior signage, and is even etched into the steel elevator
doors.
