The bus-wash reclaim system saves thousands of gallons of water per day

Reduce and Reuse
Quality and quantity of the site water (water that is collected on site from parking lots, roadways, and the building roof) released into the storm water system is a concern to the Metropolitan Council. To reduce the quantity of water, efforts were taken to reduce the amount of impenetrable area on the site, such as stacking a portion of the parking lot on the building. To improve the quality of water, two detention ponds were created in natural depressions on the site, allowing impurities to settle out of the water before its eventual runoff into the storm water sewer system.

Inside the facility, water is saved through the use of low-flow fixtures, lavatories, water closets, showers, water coolers, and a bus-wash reclaim system, which saves up to 34,000 gallons of water on a high-use day.
