The re-use of this urban site meant infrastructure (sewer, water, power) already existed near the building, efficiently utilizing energy, materials,
and money

Urban Site Challenges
Siting for the facility was a challenge, given the large and oddly shaped site. During site design, consideration was given to prevailing wind patterns, natural water drainage, and solar orientation. However, the greatest efforts were taken early in the design to minimize the overall building footprint – thereby reducing the amount of earth moved on the site; the materials needed to build the facility; and the space inside to heat, cool, and light; and allowing for more permeable site soil, creating better drainage conditions.

A small but contiguous green space with native plants is located on the eastern edge of the site. All plant materials were selected for their hardiness, reducing chemical treatment and watering needs.
