All materials used in high-traffic areas such as the entry hallway are designed to last 50 years

A Facility Built to Last
Truly a “Minnesota facility,” all materials used on the building’s exterior were obtained from within a 150-mile radius of the project site. The use of locally produced materials met durability and cost goals, reducing the energy used in transporting materials to the site.

Other strategies implemented include the design of a parking deck on top of the facility, reducing the need for both a roof and a parking lot, and the relocation of furniture and equipment from the existing garage, reducing the use of virgin materials.

BWBR’s goal is to design buildings for clients that make efficient use of energy, water, and building materials, while creating healthy environments for occupants. The East Metro Transit Facility is one of these buildings ... a building designed to preserve the environment for future generations ... and designed to stand for years to come.
