Sitting on a triangular site north of downtown Saint Paul, the East
Metro Transit Facility is home to 185 Metro Transit buses. From
this facility, more than 400 drivers, dispatchers, mechanics, trainers,
and other personnel operate 34 routes, carrying over 13 million
riders per year.
Replacing a garage built in 1907 as a streetcar facility, the new
338,000 s.f. bus garage – nearly the size of six football fields!!
– includes state-of-the-art technology to better manage and
track buses. Indoor environment issues that hampered operations
at the old facility have been improved with a high-quality ventilation
system and an energy-saving lighting system that adjusts to the
level of daylight.
