Healthy Living Center West Lakes Wellness Campus

Clive, Iowa

With a dramatic curving glass exterior, the Healthy Living Center on the West Lake Wellness Campus is the anchor and focal point of the wellness campus that brings together all the services to both treat and prevent physical ailments. A joint venture between the YMCA of Greater Des Moines and Mercy Medical Center, the Healthy Living Center is the first of the buildings to be constructed on the campus, which includes a sleep center, a cancer center, and medical office buildings. The new 82-bed Mercy Medical Center-West Lakes Hospital is situated adjacent to campus.

On the cusp of the emerging trend to marry health and fitness with medical services in a campus location for an integrated approach to health and healing, the Healthy Living Center sits on a 24-acre site with connections to nature both inside and out of the buildings. Inside the Wellness Center, expansive windows and warm materials such as natural stone contribute to a comprehensive healing environment that nourishes both body and mind. The jogging track surrounding the fitness floor overlooks the rolling wooded terrain neighboring the center.
