Our history

Helping clients with complex built environments to create a better world. We are BWBR.

From our first iteration in 1922, we have grown into a multidisciplinary firm that sees design as more than an outcome – we see design as a tool to enhance what organizations do and lift up the communities they serve. The values of Milton Bergstedt – founder of today’s BWBR – of hard work, integrity, collaboration, and great service remain as a philosophical mainstay and attract staff who are mission-driven and gravitate to serve mission-driven clients.

An employee-owned firm in our seventh generation of leadership, we remain true to our mission that includes producing distinguished architecture to positively impact the lives of patients, students, residents, researchers, engineers, and workers. We achieve great outcomes by engaging clients as part of the team and empowering staff to elevate design through constant improvement, technological advancement, risk-taking, and thought leadership.

Using architecture, interior design, and planning, BWBR is pushing the power of design thinking to enhance the value of what we do and who we are, both as a firm and as a profession.
